Judy Bailey: What’s Worked for Me

As we enter our golden years, we often get challenged both physically and mentally as we come to terms with the effects of ageing. Many of us by now are grandparents, or looking to preserve hobbies that give us a purpose…

We want to stay active, enjoy time with our loved ones, and feel confident in our ability to live life to the fullest. But the realities of getting older become intrusive into these precious moments, leaving us wondering ‘when might the last time we pick up our grandchild be?’, or ‘who is going to start noticing me slow down?’, and ‘where has all time gone?’

If you’re a health-conscious individual who wants to learn how to age with vitality, you’re in the right place.

Judy Bailey, former news presenter and TV Icon is entering her 70’s and has become fascinated by healthy ageing.

Recently teaming up with a natural health and nutrition company – Koru Nutrition, Judy has begun a project to change the way New Zealanders view and experience ageing. She intends to do this by bringing the latest research and discoveries to the conversation through a series of interviews with experts, and reviews of products that are making a difference in people’s lives.

“Once you pass 65, people tend to think it’s a downhill slide to the Zimmer frame. But that’s far from the truth; we all age differently. Many of us remain physically active, paddle boarding, cycling, and even tramping well into our 70s.”

“Being proactive is key to our health and ageing. Diet, exercise, and supplements and creams all play significant roles.”

“These are my three pillars of healthy ageing that have helped become optimistic and proud of getting older…”

Judy’s Three Pillars of Healthy Ageing:

My diet:

Focus on Nutrient-Dense Foods: As you age, it becomes even more important to prioritise nutrient-dense foods that provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. I include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins (such as fish, poultry, legumes, and tofu), and healthy fats (such as olive oil, nuts, and seeds) in my diet. These foods can help support your immune system, maintain muscle mass, and support brain health!

Stay Hydrated: Adequate hydration is essential for overall health and well-being. As you age, your sense of thirst may decrease, making it easier to become dehydrated. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day and include hydrating foods such as fruits and vegetables in your meals. Avoiding excessive consumption of caffeinated beverages or alcohol is key as they can have a diuretic effect and contribute to dehydration.

Prioritise Healthy Fats and Limit Saturated and Trans Fats: Consuming healthy fats and reducing saturated and trans fats is important for maintaining heart health and managing cholesterol levels. Include sources of healthy fats like avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish (such as salmon and sardines) in your diet. Limit your intake of saturated fats found in red meat, full-fat dairy products, and fried foods. Try your best to avoid trans fats commonly found in processed snacks, baked goods, and fast food, as they can increase the risk of heart disease and inflammation…

My Exercise:

It’s normal that as we get older, our body picks up some aches and pains…

After interviewing Dr Daniel O’Brien, I’ve realised just how important movement is for our joints. Dr O’Brien is a senior lecturer at Auckland’s University of Technology, specialising in joint pain, and his research shows that staying active is like medicine for our bodies! I’ve taken his advice to heart and made sure to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. I start with daily dog walks as a bare minimum, but every now and then, I challenge myself with something a little more adventurous, like a tramp over in the Coromandel. Let me tell you, keeping myself moving has made all the difference. It’s like it’s keeping the cobwebs off, and I truly feel years younger than my actual age. I can’t stress enough how vital it is to embrace regular exercise for healthy ageing. It’s been a game-changer for me.

My Support:

I’ve tried numerous creams and supplements, but I have to say, Koru FX Pro has been revolutionary for me. It’s the only cream that has provided fast-acting and long-lasting support when I need it most. What’s even better is that it’s made with natural ingredients (which was a must-have in order for me to buy it, let alone endorse it to you)!

So many products out there pose serious health risks with prolonged or daily use, but Koru FX Pro is different. It contains a blend of peppermint, manuka honey, almond oil, rosemary, black pepper, nutmeg, calendula, eucalyptus, marjoram, and juniper—all straight from nature. I even had the opportunity to visit the Koru Nutrition lab and witness the meticulous process firsthand. It was incredible to see just how many essential oils go into the cream…

When I made my own batch, I kept hesitating, thinking I had added enough, but the lab technician encouraged me to keep going! That’s the level of attention to detail that goes into this formula. Trust me, it really works, and I highly recommend giving it a try. There’s also a 33% discount available on certain bundles at the moment so make the most of that!

These three steps have kept me from becoming the grumpy grandparent that says no to playing outside, and no to walking the dog when she comes begging.

But…

This hasn’t just all been my own discovery… I’m fortunate to have spoken with so many experts about their field and what we truly should be doing to age well.

I will continue to bring what I learn to the conversation, so you too are most up to date!

In the meantime, I recommend you try Koru FX Pro for yourself and get that fast-acting

support right when you need it. You won’t catch me these days without a bottle on hand!

The lovely team over at Koru will also make sure you’re signed up to the mailing list where you’ll hear first when I interview more experts about ageing well.

All the very best, and I will be in touch soon.
